A Picture of Romance near Dundream

You may decide to shower your other half with chocolates, flowers or jewellery on February 14. And don’t get me wrong we all enjoy a little bit of luxury now again. However in Dumfries & Galloway there is no shortage of romantic inspiration. This is after all the home of Gretna Green, where couples elope to get married and where Robert Burn’s penned some of his most romantic works, Ae Fond Kiss and A Red Red Rose.

If you’re looking to make an impression then take some time to explore our top five most romantic hideaways, which will provide spectacular views, creating lasting memories that money just can’t buy.

The Mull of Galloway

Nothing beats the rugged natural beauty which surrounds our coastline. If you love the great outdoors as much as I do then the Mull of Galloway is guaranteed to get your pulse racing. Scotland’s most southerly point is also relatively unknown, which also adds to its character and appeal, certainly if you want to escape somewhere remote with your other half. Remaining as an unspoiled paradise this is an ideal spot if you’re looking for peace and tranquillity, with views stretching out to the sea.

Corsewall Point

On the doorstep of Dundream we are very fortunate to boast one of area’s most spectacular viewpoints. On a clear evening wrap up warm with a flask of hot chocolate and watch the sunset at Corsewall Point, as you look out to Ireland, Ailsa Craig and Arran before retreating to Corsewall Lighthouse for a glass of wine and a meal for two in its unique award winning restaurant.

Lady Bay

Another winner if you’re looking for a space to relax and unwind is Lady Bay. A small sandy bay, closely located to Dundream, Lady Bay provides views out towards Loch Ryan, creating a picture perfect backdrop for a romantic picnic or an adventurous dip!

Portpatrick

The picturesque village of Portpatrick is another hidden gem that you won’t want to leave. Whether you decide to walk along the cliffs towards the magnificent ruins of Dunskey Castle or if you choose to follow the Southern Upland way from Portpatrick to uncover Port Mora and Port Kale you’ll not be disappointed. Both are quite magical and further showcase the true beauty of this part of the world.

Castle Kennedy Gardens

Away from the awe inspiring coastline, Castle Kennedy Gardens offers natural beauty of a different kind. These well maintained and internationally acclaimed lavish gardens are set within 75 acres of land situated between two lochs around the ruins of Castle Kennedy. Another haven offering the opportunity for love to blossom as you lose yourself while strolling around the gardens. I challenge you not to be bowled over by the radiant beauty throughout this enchanting garden.

I’d love to hear from you to find out if you have visited any of our gems above or perhaps there is somewhere else in Dumfries and Galloway or further afield, which has set your heart on fire. Do get in touch.
